By allowing only the highest performing design patterns and imposing restrictions on resource-intensive JavaScript, AMP pages are much faster than the average HTML page found on the web today. To further improve load speeds, AMP uses the server-side rendering of AMP components to cache page content on Google’s servers so that content reaches the browser as quickly as possible.

AMP Growing Pains

The strategy appears to be gaining traction, as there are currently more than two billion AMP pages online, on more than 900,000 domains worldwide. AMP is a step forward for mobile optimization and responsiveness of themes, as there is now provision for mobile experiences that use different code and remove content that is redundant on a small screen.
