They will help you understand what is missing, what could be done better, and what may be an idea for your next topic. lesson 4 Talk to other theme designers. They’ll have a lot to say, and the Shopify theme team is great. Getting your theme approved for development gives you access to a direct chat line with the Shopify Theme Partnerships team, allowing you to get help faster. You can also tap into the knowledge of other theme partners who are already on the Shopify Theme Store. (Thanks to the Shopify Themes team for the Slack channel!) Everything gets better with time. lesson 5 Be patient. Sometimes it takes a long time to make things perfect and to understand precisely what is not working.
And what about Shopify apps? Do you have any advice for people who want to create their own apps? Axel: We are still in the early stages of the app ecosystem. But we think this is good advice. Try to focus on small apps first After creating our first app. We decided to build a massive app that tackled a very complex topic (billing). Our goal was too big: we wanted it to be as customizable as possible. And we wanted it to handle as many edge cases as possible. For all countries. It was just too big, and after Bosnia and Herzegovina three months of development, we decided it was best to stop and focus on apps with a smaller scope. Try to reuse the same Shopify interface For our apps, we made the decision to fully replicate the native Shopify UI.

This allowed our apps to feel like part of the Shopify ecosystem, meaning it needed less support – merchants already know how it works. This idea seems to be in line with Shopify’s vision, as the company recently announced that it was going to open up its new design system, Polaris, and make it available to all developers. Many of them are incredibly useful, but many of them, even if they come from great providers, just don’t feel right. Therefore, we believe that people who want to create apps should not be put off by competitors. There is a lot of competition in the app market, but this should not discourage people from trying to enter the field. If an application has been done 10 times, it does not mean that it has been done well. Everyone should try it! Tell Us a Bit About Maestrooo
Axel: That is a very difficult question. Honestly, it’s not easy at all, even for us. We try to prioritize and divide our time. In 2016, we dedicated… 40 percent of our time to topics. 20 percent on applications. 40 percent to custom work (across Shopify and other platforms, including custom development). We’ve started something new this year: we got together and set strict expectations for what should be available before the end of the year, with timelines for each phase and revenue expectations. Our Shopify theme activity is pretty spotty: When we are thinking of a new theme (as we are now thinking of a fourth theme), the design team (Axel and sometimes a freelancer) can concentrate exclusively on that for two months full time. And then we spent many hours on the extensive Shopify reviews.
